I have done almost everything as advised by HP online staff, but I still could not solve the problem mentioned above.

I highly suspect the mic being dislodged from its position as I could still get levels when I knock on the screen. Speaking from a position with my speech being 1 foot away from the panel can't seem to get any levels though.

I was told by the HP staff to do a system recovery of my laptop which I feel is extreme in this case.

Please help

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Do check if an external mic works fine. If it does, it would be a hardware issue. Would then recommend you to contact the HP Support Team regarding this.

If no, try a BIOS update: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00042629

Let me know if this helps.

An external headset works fine.

I did the BIOS update too. I was hoping it wasn't the hardware but everything points to it being dislodged internally as I am still getting levels when I knock on the screen.

Thanks for you quick reply!
