After a recent Windows 10 update (I am running a 64 bit notebook), my internal microphone stopped working. When I tested it the system shows only a 2% strength.
As per the device manager it is a Microphone Array using a Realtek High definition Audio driver.
Any suggestions on how I can fix this issue?
Thanks

Hi @chrisV108,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Certainly, if your internal microphone stopped working after a Windows 10 update, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue. Here's a step-by-step guide.
-
Check Microphone Privacy Settings:
- Go to "Settings" in Windows.
- Click on "Privacy."
- Select "Microphone" on the left sidebar.
- Make sure that "Allow apps to access your microphone" is turned on.
-
Update or Roll Back Realtek Audio Driver:
- Open Device Manager (you can press Win + X and choose Device Manager).
- Expand the "Audio inputs and outputs" section.
- Right-click on "Microphone Array" and select "Update driver."
- Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software."
- If this doesn't work, you might want to try rolling back the driver to the previous version.
-
Use Windows Update to Check for Updates:
- Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Windows Update."
- Click on "Check for updates" and install any pending updates.
-
Uninstall and Reinstall Realtek Audio Driver:
- In Device Manager, right-click on "Microphone Array" under "Audio inputs and outputs" and choose "Uninstall device."
- After uninstalling, restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
-
Check for Windows Troubleshooters:
- Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Troubleshoot."
- Run the "Recording Audio" troubleshooter.
-
Adjust Microphone Levels:
- Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Open Sound settings."
- Under "Input," select your microphone and click on "Device properties."
- Go to the "Levels" tab and ensure the microphone level is set appropriately.
-
Check Realtek HD Audio Manager Settings:
- Search for "Realtek HD Audio Manager" in the Start menu.
- Open it and check if there are any settings affecting the microphone.
-
Perform a System Restore:
- If the issue started after a recent Windows update, you might consider performing a system restore to revert your system to a previous state.
- To do this, type "Create a restore point" in the Start menu search and follow the prompts to restore your system to a point before the update.
-
Check for Hardware Issues:
- If none of the software solutions work, there might be a hardware issue. Ensure that the microphone is not physically damaged and is properly connected.
Remember to create a backup of your important data before making significant changes to your system.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for your detailed steps. Unfortunately it is failing when I ran the audio trouble shooter (step 5) because of RtkA2dp - which has been blocked by MS windows. The driver for this device has been blocked from starting because it is known to have problems with Windows. Contact the hardware vendor for a new driver. (Code 48)
