I have an HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14m-dw0xxx and is named DESKTOP-5HDVSPN. There is no sound and the microphone is not working. In settings, it shows that there is no connection to input or output devices and has no option when you try to connect a new device. I have tried to troubleshoot my audio issues, update the systems, and go into device manager and have found no luck. Do you know if I can fix it?

Hi @KatieZ822,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14m laptop has disconnected from its internal microphone or audio device and cannot be found in settings, you can try the following troubleshooting steps.
- Check physical connections: Ensure that the microphone or audio device is properly connected to your laptop. If it's an external microphone or audio device, make sure it's securely plugged into the appropriate port. For an internal microphone, check if any physical damage has occurred.
- Restart your laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches. Restart your laptop and see if the microphone or audio device is detected again.
- Update drivers: Outdated or incompatible drivers can cause issues with your microphone or audio device. Visit the official HP support website and download the latest drivers for your laptop model. Install the updated drivers and check if the microphone or audio device is recognized.
- Run the audio troubleshooter: Windows operating system provides built-in troubleshooters that can help identify and fix common audio issues. To access the audio troubleshooter, right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar, select "Troubleshoot sound problems," and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Check audio settings: Go to the "Sound" settings on your laptop. Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar, select "Open Sound settings," and navigate to the "Input" or "Recording" tab. Make sure the correct microphone or audio device is selected as the default input device.
- Disable and re-enable the microphone or audio device: In the Sound settings, find the microphone or audio device that is not working. Right-click on it and select "Disable." After a few seconds, right-click again and choose "Enable."
- Check privacy settings: Windows has privacy settings that control which apps can access your microphone. Go to the "Privacy" settings on your laptop, select "Microphone" from the left pane, and make sure the option "Allow apps to access your microphone" is enabled. Additionally, scroll down to the "Choose which apps can access your microphone" section and ensure that the necessary apps have permission to use the microphone.
- Scan for malware: Malware or viruses on your laptop can sometimes interfere with audio devices. Run a thorough scan using reliable antivirus software to check for any malicious programs and remove them if detected.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there might be a hardware problem with the internal microphone or audio device.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
