Hello @OSMK14 ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

We are sorry that you are having trouble on the brand new device.

If your microphone is not working on your new HP laptop, there are several potential solutions to consider. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:

Steps to Resolve Microphone Issues:

  1. Check Physical Connections (for External Microphones):

    • Ensure that the microphone is properly connected to your laptop.
    • For microphones connected via headphone jack, make sure it's fully inserted.
  2. Adjust Microphone Settings:

    • Go to Settings > System > Sound.
    • Under Input, choose your microphone from the drop-down list and click on Device properties.
    • Make sure the microphone is not muted and adjust the volume slider to an appropriate level.
  3. Privacy Settings:

    • Navigate to Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
    • Ensure Allow apps to access your microphone is enabled.
    • Scroll down to ensure the particular apps you are using have permission to access the microphone.
  4. Update Drivers:

    • Use HP Support Assistant to check for updates for your audio drivers and install if available.
    • Alternatively, visit the Device Manager (right-click on Start > Device Manager), expand Audio inputs and outputs, right-click on your microphone, and select Update driver.
  5. Run the Troubleshooter:

    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
    • Under Find and fix other problems, select Recording Audio and run the troubleshooter.
  6. Test with Different Applications:

    • Test your microphone with different applications (e.g., Voice Recorder, Skype, Zoom) to determine if the issue is application-specific.

Additional Support:

If these steps do not resolve the issue, there could be a deeper hardware-related problem, and it may require professional assistance from HP Support. You can reach out to HP Customer Support for more personalized help.

By following these steps, your microphone should function correctly, allowing you to use it for video calls, recording, and more.
