My HP envy 13 laptop microphone only picks up the sound from directly in front of the laptop. This isn’t ideal when trying to have a virtual meeting with a couple of people in the room. Is there a way to make the microphone pick up sound from the periphery as well?

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and I understand your concerns

This is by design. You might have to use an external Microphone for virtual meeting

Thank you

Is there a reason why it is like that or if there is some time of tweaking that can be done to fix that issue? I like to be able to move around when I speak, and if I go to the side or behind the laptop people say I sound extremely far away.

Since it is a Notebook, the design is such that you need to be infront or close to the inbuilt Microphone for optimum performance

The only way if you wish to move around during video calls etc would be to use an external microphone which will be more powerful
