Hi @Arnav012007,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your wired headset is not working when plugged into your HP Pavilion laptop. Let’s go through some troubleshooting steps to identify the cause.

Check the headset and port

Test your headset on another device (phone, tablet) to ensure it is working.

Inspect the laptop’s audio port for dust or debris; gently clean if needed.

Check the connection type

Make sure you are plugging into the headphone/microphone combo jack if your headset uses a single 3.5mm plug.

Some HP laptops have separate jacks for headphones and microphone — verify which port to use.

Set headset as default audio device

Right-click the speaker icon → Sounds → Playback tab.

See if your headset appears when plugged in. If yes, right-click it and select Set as Default Device.

Update or reinstall audio drivers

Press Windows + X → Device Manager → Sound, video and game controllers.

Right-click your audio device → Update driver or uninstall and then Scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver.

You can also download the latest audio driver for your HP Pavilion model from HP Support.

Check audio settings

Go to Settings → System → Sound.

Under “Output,” select your headset if it appears when plugged in.

Some headsets require “Headset” and not “Speakers” in the list.

Test the headset

Open a media file or Windows Sound test to verify audio output.

If still no sound, try another headset to determine if the issue is with the laptop’s jack.

I hope this helps.
