Hello,

i had exactly the same issue, here's how i managed to fix it:
First i went to control panel>uninstall program and i uninstalled Realtek High Definition Audio Driver, then restarted.

Then i installed first audio driver released for my laptop from HP sites, restarted.
Then i installed the driver released before the most recent, restarted again.

In the end i installed the latest audio driver (which i wasn't able to before I went through all of this) and restarted again.
Now my sound works like before the windows update.
Hope this helps.
