When i go to click the speaker icon there is a cross on it and a message that says No Audio Device is Installed. How do I get them back.

Hi @Mervyn47

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it must feel to see the speaker icon crossed out and be greeted with “No Audio Device is Installed.” Let’s carefully walk through steps to bring the sound back on your Envy laptop.

Thank you for checking this already—it helps us focus on the right direction.

Step 1: Run Diagnose & Fix in HP App

  1. Open the HP App from the Start menu.
  2. Select Support.
  3. Choose Diagnose & Fix.
  4. Run the scan and follow the instructions provided. This tool automatically checks for missing drivers or configuration issues.

Step 2: Check Device Manager

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
    • If you see your audio device listed, right-click and choose Update driver.
    • If it shows a yellow warning or is missing, proceed to reinstall.

Step 3: Reinstall Audio Driver

  1. Go to the official HP Software and Driver Downloads page:
    HP Software and Driver Downloads
  2. Enter your Envy laptop model number.
  3. Download and install the latest Audio driver available for Windows.
  4. Restart the laptop after installation.

Step 4: Check Windows Audio Settings

  1. Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sound settings.
  2. Under Output, ensure the correct audio device is selected.
  3. If none appear, click Add device and let Windows search for available hardware.

Step 5: Windows Audio Service

  1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Locate Windows Audio in the list.
  3. Ensure the service is set to Running and Automatic. If not, right-click and select Start.

These steps should help restore your audio device. Once the driver and service are back in place, you should hear that reassuring chime again when Windows starts.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
