I did a Windows Update and the computer shutdown. Then the next day I started my computer and I had no sound. I hover my mouse over the speaker icon and it says "No Audio Output Device Is Installed". I have tried everything listed on HP troubleshoot. My computers Troubleshoot says there is nothing wrong. Its as if the internal speakers for my computer are not connected. No my computer hasn't been dropped. Its brand new and barely used. I can't get anyone at HP. I waited 45mins as "next in line" for their 24 hour online chat. I called and I remain on hold for nearly 1 hour. Can anyone help me?

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
I have gone through your Post and I would like to help 👍
This issue seems to be caused by the recent Windows update.
I suggest you download the latest Audio driver available on our HP Website: https://support.hp.com/us-en/products/
Keep me posted how it goes
You can also run a Hardware diagnostic to confirm the Hardware functionality
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second.
- When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- On the main menu, click Component Tests and Audio
Thank you and have a wonderful day 😊

Hey KrazyToad,
That doesn't seem to work. I downloaded and installed the audio driver from HP site.
I then conducted the audio diagnostic test. I heard audio and it "passed".
But when I restart and login to my computer I still get this
Audio doesn't work

Thanks for keeping me posted
Please try these steps
- Select the Start button, type Device Manager, and select it from the list of results.
- Look for Audio Input & Output and expand the List
- Look for the Audio driver then right-click it, and select Update Driver.
- Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If Windows doesn't find a new driver, you can try looking for one on the device manufacturer's website and follow their instructions.
- If these steps don't work, try reinstalling the driver: Open Device Manager, right-click the Audio driver and select Uninstall. Restart your PC and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.
Also update the BIOS from this Link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/products/
Let me know how it goes
Thank you 😊

Hello,
I am having the exact same issues and have already tried everything you suggested with the exception of uninstalling anything. I'll try to attach a photo. Should I uninstall the Intel(R) Display Audio or the Intel High Definition Audio or both?

I'm the Riddle_Decipher & I'm writing on behalf of my colleague @KrazyToad, as the tech is out for the day, that said, I have reviewed your concern and the entire conversation, did some research and here's what I recommend:
Some of our computers were affected with this issue due to an update from Intel.
However, HP and Intel are working together to provide a fix at the earliest.
As a workaround, request you open device manager by doing a right-click on the Windows button/menu.
Expand “Sound, Video and Game controllers” or under “other devices” in Device manager.
To find the audio drivers installed on your computer.
Right-click on the audio drivers listed there and uninstall the Intel high definition audio and Realtek audio drivers listed there.
Delete the drivers if prompted during the uninstall process.
Once done, click on View and select Devices by connection on the Device manager.
Expand ACPI x64 based PC.
Expand PCI Express Root complex and right-click on Intel Smart Sound technology Audio controller and uninstall the device.
Make sure to delete the driver if prompted during the uninstall process.
Once done, click on Action and Scan for hardware changes twice in the device manager.
Close device manager.
Open Settings from the Windows menu.
Click on Update and Security and check for updates to get the new audio driver for your computer.
This should resolve the issue.
Keep us posted,
(We shall troubleshoot as a team, fight till the end and emerge - "victorious")

Finally, I find a solution that actually helps! Once I searched for updates in the ending (it's another button you have to press) it instantly fixed it. I have to add another thing; the sound will be very off before you restart the computer. The bass was completly flat. Just restart the computer and it should work for now.
Thanks again for the solution, and I recommend this for anyone who tried the other solution of updating the driver through the Device Manager with little success.
