HP Pavilion 17 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Since the recent Windows 10 (in December) update the audio stopped responding. There's a red cross next to the sound icon. When I hover over it says ''No speakers or headphones are plugged in.''

I've tried to find a solution for the past two months. But I'm at a loss!

(I'm a student so I need this computer to work as I cant afford to buy another one.)

I've tried disabling the audio driver and then enabling it as said on various forums but it doesn't seem to work.

I've read about rolling back to the previous version of Windows 10 but I'm hesitant to do that as I have a lot of apps, Photoshop and Editing programs installed on my pc and am afraid that I'll loose them. (Which I don't want obviously)

Further info:

When I click on Playback devices it says: AMD High Definition Audio device not plugged in.

When I troubleshoot it says: The audio peripheral doesn't appear to be plugged in. Check the connection.

Then when it troubleshoots additional problems it states: Problems found: The speaker, headset or headphone is unplugged.

Can anyone help me with this problem?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Hi:

See if installing the latest W10 audio driver directly from Realtek resolves the problem.  Restart the PC after installing...

Accept the agreement.  Download and install the 2nd driver on the list...

That would be the only suggestion I can offer.

Hi:

What is the full model number or product number of your notebook?

The product number can normally be found on the same label as the serial number.

The AMD HD audio device only is plugged in and working when you connect the notebook to a TV via an HDMI cable.

That has no bearing on why there is no audio out of the internal notebook speakers.

That's all the info I could find.
