Hi @drcot3

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

This error usually means the Conexant audio driver is missing, corrupted, or incompatible—often after a Windows update. You can restore sound by reinstalling or switching to a generic driver.

Here’s a structured approach to fix the “No Conexant audio device could be found” issue on your HP laptop:

Step-by-Step Fix for Conexant Audio Device Not Found

1. Uninstall and Reinstall the Conexant Audio Driver

  • Press Win + X > Device Manager
  • Expand Sound, video and game controllers
  • Right-click Conexant Audio (or any audio device listed) > Uninstall device
  • Check “Delete the driver software for this device” if available
  • Restart your laptop

Then reinstall the correct driver:

  • Go to HP’s official driver page:
    https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers
  • Enter your laptop model (e.g., HP Envy x360 or Pavilion)
  • Download and install the Conexant High Definition Audio Driver

2. Switch to Generic High Definition Audio Driver

If the Conexant driver fails to install or isn’t listed:

  • In Device Manager, right-click the audio device > Update driver
  • Choose Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list
  • Select High Definition Audio Device > Next
  • Restart your laptop

This bypasses Conexant and uses Windows’ built-in audio driver.

3. Enable Audio Device in BIOS

Some systems disable onboard audio in BIOS, especially after firmware updates.

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 to enter BIOS
  • Navigate to Advanced > Device Configuration
  • Ensure Audio Device is set to Enabled
  • Save and exit

4. Verify CxUtilSvc Service Is Running

Conexant audio relies on a background service.

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, press Enter
  • Find CxUtilSvc
  • Right-click > Start (if stopped)
  • Set Startup Type to Automatic
