I am unable to get any audio output from my speakers, The sound is being processed and sound cards are detected, I can tell that from pavucontrol, I have tried resetting pulseaudio, alsma, etc. The microphone works fine it is just the speaker that is the problem

Hi @shaharyar-dev ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're facing an issue with your internal speakers not producing any sound despite your system recognizing sound cards and processing audio correctly. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue on a Linux system:

Check Volume Levels and Mute Status:

  • Open a terminal and run alsamixer. This utility will show you the volume levels for each sound channel. Make sure none of them are muted (indicated by "MM" at the bottom of a channel). You can toggle the mute status by selecting the channel with arrow keys and pressing "M".

Verify Output Device:

  • Open pavucontrol (PulseAudio Volume Control). Under the "Playback" and "Output Devices" tabs, make sure the correct output device (your internal speakers) is selected and not muted. Sometimes, the output may incorrectly default to HDMI or a headset.

Test PulseAudio:

  • Restart PulseAudio to ensure it's not a temporary issue with the audio server:
  • After restarting PulseAudio, check if the issue persists.

Reconfigure PulseAudio:

  • Sometimes, the user configuration files for PulseAudio might be corrupt or misconfigured. Try moving the PulseAudio configuration files to reset its settings:
  • This will force PulseAudio to create new default configuration files.

Check for Audio Sink:

  • Run pacmd list-sinks to see the list of available audio sinks. Verify that the correct sink is set as default and is not suspended.

Update Your System:

  • Ensure your system is fully updated, as sometimes bugs related to hardware are fixed in newer kernel or software updates:

Test Speakers with ALSA:

  • Bypass PulseAudio and test your speakers directly with ALSA:
  • If this produces sound, the problem might be specific to the PulseAudio configuration.

Check for Audio Group:

  • Ensure your user is part of the audio group which might affect access to the audio hardware:

Look at Kernel Messages:

  • Check dmesg for any kernel messages that might indicate hardware issues:
  • This can reveal problems with sound drivers or hardware conflicts.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have tried playing audio directly from alsa to no avail, I have reconfigured pulseaudio multiple time and also have reinstalled arch from scratch multiple times.
I have ensured the speakers are fine as they work on windows, I can get audio from bluetooth on arch aswell, the problem seems to be with just the speakers
