HP Pavilion Laptop PC 14-dv0000 (9WF41AV)

Hi

Caveat: I am not computer/IT literate.

The Realtek audio drivers have completely disappeared from Device Manage. I am told that "no device is installed".

This was a result I think of using Avast to "clean up" my computer, as it was running slow. I am a cautious person and so would not have directly removed the Realtek drivers.

Now I am trying to get them back.

I went to the HP drivers site and they do not have the drivers for my system. I tried to download other drivers from the site, as I read that Windows 10 would work.

Nothing.

On Device Manager, now even the tab "Sounds, Video and Game controller" has dissappeared. My Microsoft Word has also failed today. It gets worse.

Would anyone please have any advice? Maybe to restore the system from the back up extrenal Hard Disk?

Or is it that computers are built to "fail" after 2 years? It make me think not to buy a new HP replacement.

Thanks for any help in advance,

System Restore may be able to restore the state before AVAST Snake Oil Disaster.

But everything is there on the HP driver page.

I appreciate your taking the time to answer my query.

The versions there are for Windows 11 22H2 operating system and before. There is no download for Windows 11 23H2 operating system.

So I download the driver for Windows 11 22H2 operating system, and it leads me to this download:

  • Realtek High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver

  • 6.0.9478.1 Rev.E
  • 122.7 MB
  • Aug 25, 2023

The HP Download Assistant does it for me, and it installs.

Still nothing has changed. The audio device isn't installed, and its not listed in the Device Manager.

Thanks Lachs for your support.

To cut a long story short, I managed to get back my Realtek sound by System Restore.

It's not for the faint hearted, and it took ages for it to happen, with an ominous spinning circle. It was tempting to restart, but I went out for a walk.

Its a good job that the date for restore  included the offending actions caused by my trust in Avast. They don't keep a lot of options for recent dates, although there were options affered from 2023 and before. I would certainly set a restore date before attempting to do anything with Avast again like this.

On reading other forums, one suggested activating Bluetooth, which did work to put "Sounds, videos and game controllers"   back into the Device Manager list. Such unexplainable idiosyncracies confirm to me that like a lot of medicine these days, it is all about trial and error.
