Hi,
I bought a second hand laptop from PC Traders (NZ) it has Windows 11 installed, everything is fine, except sound and having to push keys more than once but that's likely something to do with the keyboard itself, but you never know. (I now know to have shops show me everything works fine before walking out the door).
No sound through speakers or headphones.
Between CoPilot and I, I'm sure I've tried everything.
I have:
Reset the PC twice, both clean install and kept my files etc
Uninstalled and reinstalled audio drivers
Updated drivers via HP
Checked BIOS settings (IMT/ME enabled)
Troubleshooted and no problems detected
Used HP troubleshooters, no problems detected
Sound test shows sound detected but nothing coming out of them (The volume bar moves while running a test)
Restarted the laptop so many times with hope it'd fix itself 🙂
Restarted windows audio and realtek services, they are set to automatically start
Googled the issue and tried, possibly everything I've come across
I'm starting to think it could be a hardware issue.
It's the long weekend, so I have to wait till Tuesday to get assistance from the shop. In the meantime, I'm trying everything to get this fixed, stayed up till 2am trying to fix this issue.
I find it funny watching YouTube videos 'How to fix sound problem' and you know they're talking because they sit for a few seconds/minutes doing nothing lol and I'm just thinking "Mate, hurry up, I can't hear you that's why I'm here, why are you talking, get to the point."
So, that's what I've done and where I'm at. The only thing I haven't done is rollback to an earlier version of Windows 11, I don't even know if it's possible, but I do know I'll find out one way or another because the option isn't there in recovery (which is how I reset the thing).
Any help/advice will be absolutely appreciated.
Thanks.
Possible Fixes to Try Next
Set the Correct Default Audio Device
Open Sound Settings (Win + R → mmsys.cpl).
Go to the Playback tab.
Right-click Speakers (Realtek Audio) → Set as Default Device.
If headphones are plugged in, do the same for Headphones (Realtek Audio).
Disable Bluetooth Audio Temporarily
Go to Bluetooth Settings (Win + I → Devices → Bluetooth & other devices).
Turn Bluetooth off and test laptop speakers again.
Reinstall Realtek Audio Driver (Again)
Open Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
Expand Sound, Video, and Game Controllers.
Right-click Realtek Audio → Uninstall Device → Tick Delete the driver software for this device.
Restart your laptop and reinstall the latest Realtek Audio driver from HP’s support age
Run HP’s Audio Troubleshooter (Again)
