Hi,
I have started this new post because I did not get any further response in the previous post mentioned below - hope it's okay.
I still do not get any sound from my laptop connecting to my TV using HDMI. The picture is working just fine.
The HDMI cable is also working fine.
I've tried to install some HDMI Audio Drivers which was suggested in a previous post - https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/No-sound-HDMI-and-TV/m-p/6615286#M92569 - but no luck.
It comes up with the message 'The best driver software for your device is already installed'.
When I go to Control Panel and then the Sounds menu and then Playback, all i have is the icon for 'Speakers and Headphones - Realtek High Definition Audio - Default Device'. There is no icon for HDMI audio device.
Any suggestions...?
-Regards

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues with sound not working when connecting to HDMI. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
Splendid effort and fabulous description of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Do you get sound through Internal speakers?
Have you tried to use any external speakers or headphone?
Have you tried to run any test on the Audio?
In the meantime, while you respond to this post. Let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the notebook:
Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:
-
If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.
If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.
-
With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.
-
With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.
-
Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.
Next thing, I would suggest here is to uninstall the audio drivers from Device manager:
Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand sound video and game controllers>then select the sound drivers and right-click on it and uninstall the audio drivers.
Then check the box delete the software for this device.
Restart the computer and then update the Bios, Chipset and audio drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.

Could you please respond to this post with the details as this will help me in further assisting you.
Eagerly waiting for your response!
I hope you have a good day ahead,
And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Hi Jeet_Singh,
I'm very sorry for my late response to your answer..
I'm very glad for all the time and help you can provide!
First of all you needed a few more details - here they are
- I do get sound through speakers
- I do get sound through headphones
- No problems when I run tests.
I have performed a Hard Reset on my notebook
I have uninstalled the audio drivers from the device manager, restarted the computer and after that I have updated the BIOS.
And now we come to the strange part.......
Using the link you you suggested, I found out that there are 14 updates to the chipset and 3 updates to the Audio drivers, so I hope you can help me find out which drivers I need. See link....
But then I tried to connect my notebook to my tv with the HDMI cable AND NOW I HAVE SOUND ON MY TV !!!!
So now the sound is working fine, however I must turn up the volume pretty high on my tv or notebook.
But I have not installed any new chipset drivers or any new audio drivers to replace the one I deleted. I found that very strange !
Hope you can help me again.
