My HP laptop had no stereo mix so I downloaded Realtek HD Audio Driver but although it said that it installed successfully, still the Stereo Mix does not show in Sound settings. I 've tried installing the driver thrice to no avail. What am I doing wrong. I would appreciate a solution.

I've reviewed your post and here's what you need to do, in order to obtain the stereo mix for your audio driver settings:
- Right click on the speaker icon and select Recording Devices.
- Once open, right click on the default mic and select Properties.
- Click Listen tab and remove the check on "Listen to this device" if it has check on it.
- Next is to click on Levels tab then set Microphone Boost to 0.0dB.
- Click Apply and OK then test it again.

As I understand you have followed the steps suggested in the previous post and still having the issue.
In this scenario, I would suggest here is to check for the Windows update.
If you have problems installing the Windows updates, go to the Microsoft website and use the Windows Update troubleshooter.
Then, restart the computer and run Windows Update again.
Windows 10 update troubleshooter (in English)
Alternatively, you can try to update the driver with Windows update:
To update the driver with Windows Update:
- Connect the computer to the internet.
- Click on Start.
- Select Settings.
- Select Update & security.
- Select Windows Updates.
- Select Check for updates.
- Windows Update will download and install the drivers automatically.
To update the driver in Device Manager:
- Open Device Manager.
- Locate the sound video and game controllers.
- Right click on sound video and game controllers.
- Select Update Driver Software.
- Follow the on onscreen instructions to update the driver.
- Close Device Manager when the driver update is complete.
If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers.
Right-Click on start button> click device manager> expand sound video and game controllers>then select the sound drivers and right-click on it and uninstall the audio drivers.
Then check the box delete the software for this device.
Restart the computer and then update the Bios, Chipset, and audio drivers from our HP support website, using this link.
Once done, restart the computer.
If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to uninstall the audio drivers and then install the latest drivers from Manufacturers website.
Let me know if those steps worked for you.
If they did, that’s awesome!

Apologies for late response, for I have been busy at work.
I have gone to Device Manager, but there is no AMD and the only Intel driver that I can see is Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 or the Intel (R} Display Audio. Which one are you referring to uninstall and reinstall?

Hey there! @manusss,
Please share the product number of the PC to assist you better.
On the taskbar right click on the audio icon and left click on sounds from the list select Recording tab, you may notice an option called Stereo Mix. If you don’t have this option, it means your sound card doesn’t support the feature. If you see the stereo mix option from the list right click on it and select enable then click on apply and click on ok to save changes.
Check if mono audio is enabled on the PC.
Click the Windows Start button and select the “Settings” icon. Next, choose the “Ease of Access” tile visible under the Settings window.
Now, click “Other options” in the sidebar and scroll down to the bottom of the window. There, you’ll find “Mono audio” option displayed in Audio menu. Set it to “OFF”.
Also, If you have audio issues uninstall the audio drivers from the device manager and install the latest version of audio drivers and BIOS using HP support assistant.
