This problem has occured a few months ago but it didn't annoy me until now.
I am guessing it happened after one interrupted update, but after that every update has gone smoothly to no avail.
When I first turn on my laptop, everything is fine, there is audio and video. I ran the Audio Diagnostics from the HP Support Assistant and the results were fine, no issues found, and it was finished in a matter of minutes.
But if there is a short period of inactivity (no listening or watching anything), then the sound stops and the videos load a looong time, and when they start playing, they play with no sound, whether it is in a player or in a browser. Usually I fix this by restarting my laptop and running a song in the background on mute, so as not to freeze again.
Right now, the issue occurred again, since I was away from my laptop for half an hour and nothing was playing, so I ran the Audio Diagnostics again. It was scanning for around an hour with the following results:
Device 1: Conexant SmartAudio HD (Default Speaker)
Status: Enabled
Driver: CHDRT64.sys
Version: 8.65.165.11
Device 2: Conexant SmartAudio HD (Default Microphone)
Status: Enabled
Driver: CHDRT64.sys
Version: 8.65.165.11
There is nothing else except the Test Audio circle, which when I click, it stops after a millisecond and no sound comes off it.
I clicked the Unable to Hear Audio button, and after a while it said Driver Status: Installed, but when I click on the Test Audio button, it stops after a millisecond and no sound comes off it.
I have tried Troubleshooting Sound Problems, but it also, ran for a long time, and when it was done it displayed this error: Audio services are not responding.
Might I say, when I restart the laptop and run this Troubleshooting, as well as the HP Assistant Audio Check, they are done in a matter of minutes and there is no issue found.
I have tried to find ways to fix this, but honestly I am stuck since there is no problem like mine that I could find online. The audio and video do work fine, just not after a few minutes of inactivity.
Any tips as to what to try next and what might be the problem?
Sorry for the long description, but I do want to explain exactly what is going on so you can understand how tired I am of restarting the laptop every single time I forget to play a 'ghost' song in the back.
