Finally deployed my laptop and I have no sound.  It does not see the speakers or mic.  I downloaded and installed the driver and still nothing.  Does not show up in device manager.  I need help.

Hi @MarcusEMM13,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your laptop is not detecting any audio devices, and you have already attempted to install the drivers without success. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Check Connections:

  • Ensure that no external audio cables, like headphones or speakers, are plugged in, as they might redirect audio from the built-in speakers.

  • Make sure the volume is not muted and is turned up.

Use Windows Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.

  • Select Playing Audio and run the troubleshooter to diagnose and possibly fix the issue.

Check Device Manager:

  • Open Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start Menu and selecting it.

  • Look under Sound, video and game controllers. If the audio device isn't showing, this could indicate a driver or hardware issue.

  • Try showing hidden devices by clicking View > Show hidden devices, and check if your audio devices appear.

  • If any devices are showing with a yellow triangle, right-click and try updating the driver or uninstalling and then reinstalling to see if it resolves the issue.

Update Windows:

  • Use Windows Update to make sure you have the latest system updates, which can sometimes fix audio problems.

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

Reinstall Audio Driver:

  • Uninstall the audio driver from Device Manager and then reinstall it.

  • You can reinstall it from the manufacturer’s website or use the HP Support Assistant.

HP Support Assistant:

  • You can use the HP Support Assistant to automatically find and install any updates or drivers necessary for your audio device. You can usually find it in the Start Menu or download it from the HP website if it’s not installed.

BIOS Settings:

  • Check if your audio device is disabled in the BIOS settings. Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing F2, F10, ESC, or DEL during startup) and ensure audio devices are enabled.

Reset Your PC:

  • As a last resort, consider using the reset feature in Windows to restore your system to its original state. This will reinstall Windows and can potentially fix issues related to the operating system configuration, though it will remove third-party applications.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I came here and fixed it minutes later.  I found the corrupt driver.  Deleted it and reinstalled.  Started working right away.

Great work—removing that corrupt driver and reinstalling must have felt like clearing a jammed gear, letting everything run smoothly and instantly responsive again. Thanks for sharing the fix!
