I have no sound on my laptop.  When I hover over the speaker icon it states "No audio device is installed".  I have tried all the diagnostic tests and nothing fails.  When I do the audio test, it fails and state "No audio device is installed"

Hi @Nanci10,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your laptop shows “No audio device is installed” and no sound is working, even though diagnostics don’t show any failures. Let’s go through a few steps to troubleshoot this.

Check Device Manager
Press Windows + X → Device Manager → Sound, video and game controllers.
If you don’t see any audio devices listed (or see a yellow triangle), Windows is not detecting the audio hardware.

Show hidden devices
In Device Manager, click View → Show hidden devices.
Sometimes the audio device is disabled or hidden and will appear here.

Uninstall and reinstall audio drivers

Right-click any audio device listed and select Uninstall device.

Restart your laptop. Windows should attempt to reinstall the audio driver automatically.

Download the latest audio driver from HP
Go to HP Support → Software & Drivers and enter your laptop model.
Download the Realtek or Conexant audio driver for your operating system and install it manually.

Check Windows audio services
Press Windows + R → services.msc.
Ensure Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder are running and set to Automatic.

Check BIOS/UEFI settings
Restart your laptop and enter BIOS/UEFI.
Look for onboard audio settings and make sure the audio device is enabled.

Test with a Windows audio troubleshooter
Go to Settings → System → Sound → Troubleshoot.
Sometimes this can detect devices that need driver reinstallation or reset.I hope this helps.
