Hi @MDale1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • The exact HP laptop model you’re using.
  • Any recent changes (Windows updates, driver installations, or software changes) before the sound stopped working.
  • Whether you see any yellow warning icons in Device Manager under “Sound, video and game controllers.”

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try right away:

  • Restart your laptop: Sometimes a simple reboot reloads the audio driver.
  • Check Device Manager:
    1. Press Windows + X → select Device Manager.
    2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
    3. If your audio device is missing or shows an error, right-click and choose Scan for hardware changes.
  • Reinstall the audio driver:
    1. In Device Manager, right-click your audio device (if visible) → Uninstall device.
    2. Restart your laptop Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.
  • Update drivers via HP Support Assistant: Open HP Support Assistant and check for driver updates, especially the audio driver.
  • Windows Troubleshooter:
  1. Go to Settings → System → Sound.
  2. Scroll down and click Troubleshoot to let Windows detect and fix issues.

I hope this helps.
