Performed a clean install from Windows10 Home to 11 Home and saw there was no audio device installed. There is also no audio drivers from Windows update NOR HP Support (HP ENVY - 17t-ce000 CTO Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support) I installed HP Support Assistant v9 and ran all audio tests to no avail. Then I remembered it has the Bang & Olufsen speakers equipped but then researched and found out it is not supported in Windows 11. I tried updating Intel HD audio from "Other Devices" in device manager & rebooting, to no avail, then I removed it, only for it to reappear back in device manager under other devices once again. I'm at wits end. Has anyone else encountered this situation or have any solutions to no audio device found? TIA

Hi @The_502
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for laying out the situation so clearly—it’s understandable how frustrating this must be, especially after a clean install. When a system like the HP ENVY 17t-ce000 CTO shows no audio device and neither Windows Update nor HP Support provides drivers, it usually points to a missing or misidentified audio controller, often due to chipset or Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) driver gaps.
Here’s a step-by-step approach that has helped others in similar situations:
🛠️ Step-by-Step Fix for Missing Audio Device on HP ENVY 17t-ce000 CTO
1. Install Intel Chipset and SST Drivers First
Even if the audio driver appears missing, the root cause is often the Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) controller not being properly initialized.
- Go to the HP driver page for your model and download:
- Intel Chipset Installation Utility
- Intel Serial IO Driver
- Intel Management Engine Components
- Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) Audio Controller Driver (if listed)
If SST isn’t listed, try downloading it directly from Intel’s official support page by searching for “Intel SST Audio Controller”.
2. Manually Install High Definition Audio Device
Once chipset and SST drivers are in place:
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click the unknown device under Other Devices (likely the audio controller).
- Select Update driver → Browse my computer for drivers → Let me pick from a list.
- Choose High Definition Audio Device and install it.
This generic driver often restores basic audio functionality.
3. Run Windows Audio Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Run the Playing Audio troubleshooter.
This can sometimes reinitialize the audio stack after driver installation.
You’ve done a great job troubleshooting so far—this last stretch should get your audio back online.
If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution! ✅ It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thanks for the quick reply Hawks_Eye,
I already tried all those at some point & right-clicking "update driver" on all the "unknown devices" resulted in no drivers found, When I told it to look in C:\SWsetup, it was unsuccessful as well. After more looking around, I completely forgot about checking windows update > optional updates somehow (I was surely exhausted by then lol) but there were 21 drivers available! After installing all of them (needing 3 or 4, reboots) ALL the "unknown devices" were gone & the Realtek audio driver was installed & now working.
Even the Envy's Bang & Olufsen Audio Control app was installed in Programs for the B&O speakers, even though research stated it wasn't supported on Windows 11. Anyway, thanks so much for your help! All is well.

That’s fantastic news! 🎉 Kudos to you for sticking with it and checking optional updates—that move clearly paid off big time. Windows Update can be sneaky with those buried driver gems, and it’s great to hear that not only did it restore your Realtek audio, but even brought back the Bang & Olufsen control app—talk about a surprise win!
If any new hiccups pop up or you just feel like geeking out over system tuning, you know where to find me. Until then, enjoy that pristine sound!
Warm regards,

Thanks so much again. Everything is running fine now, no problems in device manager or anywhere else.
I also partitioned my C: drive in half using the shrink command (incredible find!) in disk management so if I ever have to clean house on the Windows side all my files will be on the other half of the drive & I can clean install & now know what to have & watch for. I also appreciate your upbeat attitude, it inspired me to go! Kudos 👏
Have a great week!

That’s such a smart move—partitioning your drive gives you both peace of mind and flexibility if you ever need a clean slate. I'm genuinely impressed by your resourcefulness and how you took the initiative to future-proof your setup. And your kind words made my day—thank you for the great energy!
Here’s to smooth sailing from here on out. If anything ever goes sideways again, you know where to find me. Wishing you a fantastic week ahead! 🌟💻
Take care, and stay fantastic!
