Hi @Mat1975,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you’re seeing the message “No audio device is installed” on your HP system. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Restart the system
Restart the computer to rule out a temporary driver or service issue.
After restart, check if audio devices reappear.

Check Device Manager for audio hardware
Open Device Manager and expand Sound, video and game controllers.
If nothing appears or you see unknown devices or error icons, the audio driver may not be loading.

Show hidden devices
In Device Manager, click View → Show hidden devices.
Look for disabled or greyed-out audio devices and enable them if present.

Reinstall the audio driver
In Device Manager, uninstall the audio device (check “Delete the driver software” if available).
Restart the system and allow Windows to reinstall the driver automatically.

Install the correct HP audio driver
Download and install the audio driver specific to your HP model from HP’s website.
Generic Windows drivers may not detect the onboard audio hardware correctly.

Check Windows audio services
Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
Ensure Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder are running and set to Automatic.

Check BIOS audio settings
Restart and press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
Verify that onboard audio is enabled, then save changes and reboot.

Test with HP UEFI Diagnostics
Restart and press F2 to open HP Hardware Diagnostics.
Run the audio test to confirm whether the system can detect the audio device at firmware level.

I hope this helps.
