Hey, I have HP ENVY x360 15 Convertible PC 15-es2000 laptop.

Built-in microphone stopped working, can't select it because audio recording device is missing.

All Windows updates are installed.

HP Support Assistant is installed and it shows that all updates are installed.

Hi @raptor-lv,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your built-in microphone on your HP ENVY x360 laptop is not working and there's no audio recording device available in the system, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

Check Device Manager:

  • Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager." Look for the "Audio inputs and outputs" and "Sound, video and game controllers" sections. Check if there are any yellow exclamation marks next to any of the devices. If you see any, right-click on them and select "Update driver" to see if updating the drivers resolves the issue.

Enable Microphone in Sound Settings:

  • Right-click on the sound icon in the system tray and select "Open Sound settings." Go to the "Sound Control Panel" section and click on the "Recording" tab. Right-click anywhere in the window and make sure that both "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices" are checked. If your microphone appears here, right-click on it and select "Enable."

Run Audio Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > System > Sound. Scroll down and click on "Troubleshoot" under the "Input" section. Follow the prompts to run the audio troubleshooter, which can help diagnose and fix common audio issues.

Check Microphone Privacy Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone. Make sure that the "Allow apps to access your microphone" toggle is turned on. Also, scroll down to the "Choose which Microsoft Store apps can access your microphone" section and ensure that the apps you want to use with the microphone have permission to access it.

Update Audio Drivers:

  • Even if HP Support Assistant indicates that all updates are installed, it's worth checking for audio driver updates manually. Visit the HP support website, enter your laptop model, and download the latest audio drivers available. Install them and restart your laptop to see if it resolves the microphone issue.

Perform System Restore:

  • If the issue started recently, you can try performing a system restore to revert your laptop's settings to a previous point when the microphone was working. Go to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore, and follow the on-screen instructions to choose a restore point.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue with the microphone on your HP ENVY x360 laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
