Hey Everyone,

I have been facing this problem for a few months already but ignored it until now. Basically, my output microphone is not working so no one can ever hear me when I am in a meeting or a call. This issue is across the board with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet etc..  When I use any websites or apps to test my microphone, they also show that no audio is being detected.

I have tried many internet solutions such as changing the properties, downloading updates, uninstalling and reinstalling my audio drives, etc.. and none of them have fixed the problem either. I've reached a dead end and was hoping to see if someone in this community has any ideas or ways to approach this!

Hi@hchalak, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for posting on HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel.

I read the post regarding the internal microphone not working. I will be glad to assist you with this. You've done some smart troubleshooting and provided a splendid account of the issue. Kudos to you for that.

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this.

  • Could you provide me with the exact model of the PC? Use this link to find it:  https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03754824  (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

  • Did you try the tap test in audio settings for the headset microphone?
  • Have you recently made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?
  • Have you confirmed the Microphone is listed under the device manager?

  • Did you try an external microphone to check if that works?

For a start please try these steps:

  • Right-click on the speaker icon on the lower right corner of the taskbar.
  • Then please select recording devices. Please select the Headset Mic option
  • Then tap the Lid near the top gently several times next to where the webcam is located and check if the microphone bars respond to the taps and receive inputs.
  • If they do then it should work with a driver uninstall and reinstall.
  • Please make sure that the headset Mic is set to default and enabled in the properties option.

Then please perform these steps from the device manager.

  • Right-Click on the start button> click device manager> expand sound video and game controllers>then select the sound drivers and right-click on it and uninstall the audio drivers. Check the box that says delete the software for this device.
  • Then restart the computer and update the bios, chipset, and audio drivers from this link:  https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers Please select the country and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer to this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

Then check if this does the trick for you.

If the issue continues, then check if the internal Microphone is working and perform all the relevant steps from this link:  HP PCs - Resolving Microphone Problems (Windows 10,    to troubleshoot the issue Then check if it gets resolved.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hey @praveenbv,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write out a very detailed solution. Unfortunately, the issue still persists. Everything that I try is leading to that my internal microphone is not working. for example:

- If I try to connect to a zoom meeting and I use my headphones (External) for output and input, everything works fine. However, if I connect to the meeting and use the computer microphone for output and input, the input doesn't work (others can't hear me) but output works (I can hear others). If I use the built-in microphone for output and my external headphones for input, that also works. It is just that the built-in laptop microphone input is malfunctioning.

The exact model of my PC is: HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15-bp1xx as per HP Support Assistant

I tried the tap test that you suggested and it works (bars go up). I also uninstalled my audio drivers and reinstalled them as well as the bios and chipset, none of it is working yet. I am very confused as to what the issue might be since no solutions seem to work.

Hopefully there's a fix to this, thanks again!

@hchalak,We have done the basic troubleshooting as per the document and the notebook needs to checked taking remote access so that get to know it's a hardware or software issue.

I'd suggest you contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer or HP Chat Support Team.
