The sound just disappeared from my laptop. I have tried everything, tried to update the Realtek driver but I keep getting Error Code 0001 and it won't download. I have no sound and no microphone - it has all disappeared.
When I go to Device Manager to try to update the driver, there is no sound section at all in the drop down menu. I have reset the whole system and still no joy. Also, when I put in a memory stick, it doesn't register - I don't know if that is related.
I tried the BIOS menu diagnostic and it played a sound through there but it just keeps telling me that there is no audio device and I keep hitting a brick wall. I have no idea what else I can do, I have run through all of the diagnostics, all of the online help but nothing is working.

I don't know what model Realtek audio chip you have -- but the link below is to the MS Catalogue for reaktek HD audio drivers:
https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=Realtek+High+Definition+Audio+2023
The one that works for me is the 12.2MB file -- but you might have to try different ones to get one that works.
Also, this is ONLY the audio driver, not the Audio Manager app that comes preloaded on OEM PCs.
