Hi @Laptop12310
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thank you for explaining the situation so clearly. It’s genuinely frustrating when a laptop that’s barely been used starts making loud fan noise—especially when you’ve already tried the usual fixes. The good news is that this issue is often solvable with a few targeted steps.
Here’s a structured approach that may help quiet things down:
Common Causes
Dust buildup or clogged vents → even if unused, dust can settle inside over time.
Background processes → Windows updates, antivirus scans, or apps can keep the CPU working hard, which ramps up the fan.
Fan wear or imbalance → sometimes the fan bearings get noisy, especially if the laptop has been stored in a humid/dusty environment.
Steps to Fix / Troubleshoot
Check for Background Load
Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc).
Check if CPU or disk usage is unusually high.
If yes, stop unnecessary startup apps or updates.
Update BIOS & Drivers
HP often releases BIOS updates that improve fan control.
Install updates from HP Support Assistant or HP’s driver website.
Clean the Vents
Use a compressed air can to blow out dust from the side/bottom vents.
Do short bursts, and avoid spinning the fan too fast.
Change Power Settings
Go to Control Panel → Power Options.
Select HP Recommended or Balanced, not High Performance.
In Advanced Power Settings → Processor power management, lower the Maximum processor state to ~90–95%. This reduces heat and noise.
Check HP CoolSense (if available)
Some HP laptops come with CoolSense software, which can help regulate fan use.
You can install it from HP’s website if missing.
Last Resort: Service / Fan Replacement
If the fan itself is faulty (clicking, grinding, or abnormally loud even at low load), it may need replacement.
