Got this computer earlier this year. Was working great until yesterday.
Windows Update installed numerous updates including driver updates.. 12 hours of my day (and counting) gone as a result.
Bad sound quality in the headphones. At one point the speakers wouldn’t shut off when plugging in the headphones. Numerous attempts to uninstall and reinstall the driver. Attempts to install the generic driver from Realtek, nothing.
A minor fix was to manually install the generic Windows driver for the soundcard. Problem with this is the Stereo Mix feature that I use disappears with this driver.
What can I do?

Says the BIOS update you linked is not compatible with this device. This machine runs Windows 11, not sure if that makes any difference.
I get the following error when installing the driver update you listed:

Hello @jeremy1069fm
Did your HP Stream come originally with windows 10 ?
try:

This computer came with Windows 11 preinstalled. So no, it did not have Windows 10 at all. It seems they have no support for these machines in regards to Windows 11, which is unfortunate since they ship these computers with it installed.
I have already been in touch with both HP and Microsoft Support. I spent hours on end chatting with and letting the agents use remote control and there were no results at all. This is why I am posting here. Looking to see if anybody else might be able to help.
I cannot believe a Windows Update would do this much damage but it seems like it’s not unheard of.

Hello @jeremy1069fm
I would pull the emergency brake now...
Try this:

The last thing I did was basically erasing the machine and reinstalling Windows. I did that this morning.
The soundcard is running again on the generic Windows driver, which is not what I prefer but at least it sounds OK in my headphones.
At this point all I really need is to figure out how to get the Stereo Mix function back. Is there any way I can do that with this driver or is there another generic driver that might work?

Hello @jeremy1069fm
there are tons of (long) youtube videos to solve sound problems, here is the shortest one, try:

I unfortunately am not finding any solutions. I decided to contact Realtek, since they manufactured the soundcard. I’m hoping they might know how to solve this, assuming they get back to me at all.
Thanks for your time.
