ENVY Notebook - 17t-n100 CTO (ENERGY STAR)

I have a obnoxious buzzing noise coming from the speakers. No matter what I do it persist and not even when I mute the sound does it go away.  The Laptop would sit idle with no app running and it still persist. Very annouying. What can be causing this a bad power supply?

Hi @PoppaDukes,

Thank you for your query. I understand that you have an obnoxious buzzing noise coming from the speakers.

Please try the following steps.

1. Right click the Speaker icon in the bottom right corner by your time.
2. Click Playback Devices.
3. Click Speakers.
4. Click properties.
5. Click the advanced tab on the Properties window.
6. Change the Default Format drop-down to the highest quality.
7. Apply the properties.
8. Click OK to close the properties window. Restart your Notebook and try the sound.

You could try using the Windows Update Troubleshooter tool to fix any updates that have not come through for Windows. Please restart the Notebook twice to make sure all update have been completed. Should the above not help, here are two more links that could also help:

I have done this and it did not work.  Any other ideas?

HI @PoppaDukes,

Thank you for keeping me in the loop. Have you done all your Windows updates? Have you run the HP Support Assistant  to aid with obtaining any recommended HP updates? If the issue remains, please test for hardware failures to rule that out. HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 😎

Nothing seems to help get rid of this noise. The hardware tool doesnot find any issues. It is frustrating that this problem occurs at boot up and continues whenever you play a movie or are on any video sites like youtube.

I have the same model and the exact problem. The laptop just passed warranty period.

What I did: disassemble the laptop, there are left speaker, right speaker and middle speakers. I find the noise is from the middle speakers, unplug the middle speakers (subwoofer), now noises are gone, though sound quality will not be same as before. It should be the system board problem. It must be a common flaw of this model, because there are many other users have the same model and same problem.
