HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-fc1000 (A02KCAV)

I purchased a new HP 15s laptop (model: HP 15s-fq5202TU) just about one month ago, and I’m already facing a frustrating issue. There’s a random popping sound from only one speaker — not both — and it happens even when no audio or video is playing.

I’ve done a full BIOS update, Windows reset, disabled enhancements, and updated all audio drivers (with help from Microsoft support). The popping stopped for a short time but has now returned and is happening more frequently again.

I'm running Windows 11 Home, 64-bit, and all updates are installed.

HP support has been very slow and unhelpful — they just repeat steps and don’t escalate or send a technician, even though the device is under warranty.

Can someone confirm if this is a hardware problem (speaker/amp/audio chip) or still a firmware/driver conflict? This issue is making it hard to use the laptop for basic tasks like coding or browsing.

Any help or proper escalation would be really appreciated.

Hi @soura_21a,.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the popping sound in the HP 15s laptop speaker!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Check Speaker Connections:

  • Ensure there are no loose connections or physical damages to the speakers. Although unlikely on a new laptop, it's worth checking if any dust or debris is obstructing the speaker.

Disable Audio Enhancements:

  • Sometimes audio enhancements can cause issues. Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar, select Sounds, go to the Playback tab, select your speakers, click Properties, and in the Enhancements tab, check Disable all enhancements.

Adjust Audio Settings:

  • Go to the Sound Settings (Windows key + I > System > Sound). Under Advanced sound options, click App volume and device preferences and adjust the output device settings.

Run the Audio Troubleshooter:

  • Windows 11 has built-in troubleshooters. Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Playing Audio and run the troubleshooter to detect and fix audio problems.

Check for Interference:

  • Electromagnetic interference from other devices might cause audio issues. Try relocating your laptop to another area to ensure there isn't any interference from other electronic devices.

Update or Roll Back Audio Driver:

  • Since the issue persists despite updating the drivers, sometimes reverting to an older driver version can fix the issue. Go to Device Manager (Windows key + X > Device Manager), expand Sound, video and game controllers, right-click your audio driver, select Properties, go to the Driver tab, and choose Roll Back Driver.

Check BIOS Settings:

  • Enter the BIOS (usually by pressing F10 during startup) and check if there are any settings related to the audio that can be adjusted.

Factory Reset:

  • Although you've already performed a Windows reset, if none of the above steps work, a factory reset might pick up any underlying issue that wasn't resolved before.

I hope this helps.
