Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fa2000 (A8VY0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a new HP Victus 15 laptop, and I’ve been experiencing a strange audio issue. Every now and then, I hear a knocking or popping sound coming from the speakers—even when no media is playing. It’s not constant, but it happens randomly and is starting to get annoying.
I’ve already tried updating the audio drivers and checking for Windows updates, but the problem persists. I also disabled audio enhancements and background apps, but no luck so far.
Has anyone else experienced this with the Victus series or found a fix? Could it be a hardware issue, or something related to the Realtek audio driver?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Hi @Tarkan2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Thanks for sharing the details. The popping/knocking sound on your HP Victus 15 speakers is something we’ve seen reported before, and it can often be narrowed down to software settings or power management rather than a hardware fault.

Update BIOS & Chipset Drivers

Go to HP Support, enter your exact Victus model, and install the latest BIOS and AMD/Intel chipset drivers. These updates often include fixes for audio glitches.

Reinstall Audio Drivers

In Device Manager → expand Sound, video and game controllers.

Right-click Realtek Audio → Uninstall device (check "Delete the driver").

Restart your laptop → Windows will reinstall the default driver.

Then, install the latest Realtek audio driver from HP’s support page.

Disable Audio Power Management

Open Control Panel > Power Options > Advanced settings.

Expand PCI Express → Link State Power Management, set to Off.

Some Realtek drivers also have a hidden setting in the registry to disable power-saving “pop suppression,” which can help.

Test with Headphones / External Speakers

Plug in headphones or a Bluetooth speaker.

If the popping only happens on the built-in speakers, it may point to the internal amp circuit. If it happens on all outputs, it’s more likely a driver issue.

HP Support Assistant Test

Run HP Support Assistant > Audio Test to check if it reports any hardware errors.

I hope this helps.
