Hello,
I have ProBook 6450b with DisplayPort++. I bought DisplayPort>HDMI cable to connect NB to my AV receiver. I am able to see the video but I can't hear the sound. I expected to have 5.1 sound via this connection. I see IDT High Definition Audio CODEC and Intel Display Audio in Device Manager of Windows 7 but in Sound I have only IDT High Definition Audio CODEC.
When I boot to Ubuntu I have sound over this connection but only Stereo
Is it possible to have 5.1 sound from this connection in Win7?

I have the same problem. It is not possible to send sound to external speakers when the display port is in use.
Setup is on a probook 6450b with windows 7 pro. Trying to connect to projecor with external speakers. It is the same problem to a television. When i use rgb and adio cabel the sound is ok.

Hi,
I have the same probook 6450b (win7 x64 enterprise) and got sound working only stereo not 5.1.
I have updated the audio and video drivers to the latest version.
Then go to control panel --> sound --> on the playback tab it shows my panasonic tv, which i can set as default device.
It only shows my Panasonic if the DP to HDMI cable is attached.
I'm still searching for a way to get the 5.1 sound working. Any ideas?
regards, Bob

To make sound on Windows 7/8/8.1 via DisplayPort, you must setup Intel's DisplayAudio driver.
1) Download the latest .zip driver from intel.com [ https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=22520 ], and exrtact it to a folder.
2) Go to Control Panel -> Hardver and Sound -> Device Manager (as Administrator).
Search Sound, video and game controllers System tree children. You must see two device, IDT High definiton sound, and an another, High Definition Sound with standard Microsoft driver.
3) Right click on the second "High Definition Sound", choose update driver Software.
4) A new window ask "How do you want search for driver software". Choose "Brows my computer for driver software".
5) Browse the extracted Intel driver, and select Include subfolders.
Windows will install Intell(R) Display Audio. That's it. Now it will working.
