I have HP Pavilion DV6 3040SA and have upgraded to Windows 10 as 7 will soon have no support. Windows 7 graphics drivers won't work and Windows update only finds one driver for one of the two parts of the switchable chipset.

My laptop is now running much hotter at 60degC instead of 40degC with Windows 7.

As previously said, all we want is a Windows 10 driver for the DV6.

I forced Windows 10 to use Windows 7 drivers by turning off driver signing check but still it just gives error 43.

@Andyb1712,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the graphics driver after upgrading to Windows 10.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I checked and see that there are no drivers for Windows 10 for your computer. However, I recommend you download and install HP support assistant from the below link and it will automatically detect and install all the latest drivers available for your computer.

Here is how it is done.

Download link: https://www8.hp.com/in/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_in/en/any/psg/p...

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

  6. Perform any other update management actions as needed.

    • Postpone an update: Click Remind me, and then select a time preference.

    • Delete an available update: Click the Delete icon  to remove the update from the list and record it in the action log.

    • Review updates status: Click Action log below the list to view installed, postponed, or deleted updates.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution. Your feedback counts!

Cheers!

I have solved the problem of no drivers available for Windows 10 for my DV6-3040SA.

Windows update installed drivers for both the Radeon HD5000 and HD4200 parts of the system but only one part worked and the system ran very hot. I got it working using the following method:

1) Disable driver signing checking by rebooting in 'trouble shooting' mode.

2) Download Windows 8.1 driver from AMD and extract the files using 7zip. Do not run the installer.

3) Open control panel and manually select the Radeon HD4200 device and update the driver. Choose let me pick and navigate to the folder where the drivers were extracted to.

Windows will install the Win 8.1 driver for the HD4200 (v 8.970.100.7000) which will work fine with Windows 10.

The HD5000 will continue to use the driver from Windows Update (v15.201.1151.1008).

I then turned off Windows automatic driver updates or it will update the HD4200 one again and the yellow exclamation will return for that device.

I tried HP Support Assistant but it didn't find any updated drivers, so this is the best working solution I can find.
