I keep getting an error message something about an ExitError, Unkown Error towards the end of the install. This is on a HP ENVY M6 SleekBook that I just installed a new hard drive and fresh install of Windows 10 and updated to ver 1803. I uninstalled the original sound driver, and tried to install this package. I ran the Windows 10 compatibility tester on it and when I tested it (it runs through the install process) I get the same error. Any ideas? THANKS!

@yankeebubba, Thanks for your quick response and time.

I appriciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As you mentioned the issue still persists after trying out the steps.

Try the steps recommended below.

Run an SFC Scan

The “sfc /scannow” command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

a) Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard and select “Command Prompt (Admin)” from that menu.

b) On the command prompt window, type the following command, and then press “Enter”

sfc /scannow

c) Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the scan.

Also, Use Deployment Image Servicing and Management to fix the System File Corruption and Windows Update Errors

To run the DISM Tool, you may follow these steps:

a) Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard and select “Command Prompt (Admin)” from that menu.

b) On the Command Prompt window, type the following commands, and then press “Enter” after each command.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

c) After completing the process, type “Exit” and press “Enter” on the Command Prompt window to close it.

After running the DISM tool, you may again run the SFC Scan on the computer and check if that resolves the system file corruption and the update issues on the computer.

Hi! @yankeebubba, Welcome to HP forums.

I understand you have audio issues with your PC.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

Please share the product number of your PC to assist you better.

As you mentioned the audio has stopped after updating your PC to Windows 10 version 1803.

Please try the steps recommended below.

Go to Windows Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers section.
In the list of audio device drivers, look for Realtek or IDT High-Definition Audio. This is the device driver for BeatsAudio (a little bit sneaky, wouldn’t you say?).
Right-click and select Disable. The downward arrow displays on this driver, indicating it is disabled. (NOTE: At this point, you won’t be able to play any music files.)
Right-click and select Update Driver Software.
Select Browse my computer for driver software.
Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
You should see a window that says Select the device driver you want to install for this hardware. NOTE: If you see a window that says something like This is the best driver for this device, exit the window and repeat steps 4, 5, and 6.
In the Model box, highlight High Definition Audio Device (this is the substitute audio device driver) and click Next.
At the Update Driver Warning window, click Yes. You should see a confirmation window with High Definition Audio Device displayed. Click Close.
In the list of audio device drivers in the Sound, video and game controllers section, you’ll notice that the High Definition Audio Device now displays instead of Realtek or IDT High-Definition Audio.
At the prompt to reboot, click Yes.

If the issue still persists try the steps recommended below.

background intelligent transfer service (BITS) transfers files (downloads or uploads) between a client and server and provides progress information related to the transfers. If the BITS service is turned off, windows update may have problems delivering files to your computer.

Also, try the steps recommended below.

1. In the Sound settings, click on Properties while selecting your Speakers

2. In the Enhancements tab, click Disable all sound effects

3. In the Advanced tab, unclick "Allow applications to take exclusive control..."

4. Apply the settings and test the sound.

Start the BITS service click start, and then click run.

Type services.msc in the open box and then click ok.

Right-click background intelligent transfer service, and then click properties.

On the general tab in the startup type box, click Automatic, and then click apply.

In the service status section of the properties dialog box, verify that the BITS service is started. if it is not started, click start.

Click apply, and then click ok.

Also, uninstall the audio drivers from device manager and install the latest audio driver on your PC using HP support assistant.

Refer this article to know more information about using HP support assistant.

If the issue still persists uninstall the audio driver from device manager and install the drivers using HP recovery manager.

Refer this article to know how to restore drivers using HP recovery manager.

If the issue still persists try running a system diagnostics test from your PC and check if the hardware components on your PC are functioning correctly.

Refer this article to know more information about running system diagnostics on your PC.

No of these work. Again the issue I’m having is getting the IDT driver installed. I keep getting the error “_ExitError: Error=Error in installation, Unknown Error”

Yes I was finally able to install the Windows 8 IDT audio driver without getting that error. I now have sound but still don’t have the Beats Audio. Any idea on how to get that software/sound control panel back? Thanks!

As you mentioned your issue got resolved trying out the steps.

I'm glad to know that your issue got resolved. Also, as you mentioned you don't see the beats audio control panel on your PC.

As your unit was shipped with Windows 8 operating system by default and since you get did not get an upgrade offer to Windows 10 from HP.

There are no Windows 10 drivers available for your PC. However, you can try installing the audio driver listed below and check if it helps.

This package contains the driver that enables the IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.

Download and install the IDT audio driver using this link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63555.exe

Restart the PC after installing the driver.
