Not sure whether to use 'Reply' or to open a new thread.  The RH Speaker has stopped working again.  I have been through the suggestions made, above, previously and it is still not working.  All indications in the various menus are that it is not muted and balance is set to the mid point.  If I reboot into Windows then it works fine.  This is a Linux/HP interface issue. Please help.

Hi @MartynJS

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that the issue has reoccurred. Since you have already performed the troubleshooting steps previously shared and the issue still persists, I would request you to run a Hardware Test from the HP UEFI Diagnostics environment to help determine whether the speakers are functioning correctly at the hardware level.

Please perform the following steps:

  • Shut down the laptop completely.
  • Power on the laptop and repeatedly tap the Esc key until the Startup Menu appears.
  • Press F2 to launch HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI).
  • Select Component Tests > Audio > Speaker Test.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and note the test result or any failure ID displayed.

Once the test is complete, please share the outcome with us. This will help determine whether the issue is hardware-related or specific to the Linux operating system.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thanks for the reply.  The test passed (I ran it twice) but then, as I said in my post, the speakers work when running Windows so it was unlikely to be a hardware issue.

Hi @MartynJS

Thank you for responding.

I understand that the hardware audio test passed successfully and that the speakers work within Windows, which suggests the speaker hardware is functioning correctly. Additionally, please update the drivers.

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
  • Right-click the audio device (Realtek, Intel Smart Sound Technology, etc.) and select Uninstall device.
  • Check "Delete the driver software for this device" if available.
  • Restart the computer.
  • Install the latest audio driver from the HP Support website for your model.

I Hope this helps.

Have a good day.

Thanks but this does not work in Linux (Mint) as there is no Device Manager.  My Drivers Manager says that all drivers are up to date.

Hi @MartynJS

Thank you for responding.

I understand. Since you are using Linux Mint, the Windows Device Manager troubleshooting steps are not applicable.

Please note that we provides limited support for Linux operating systems, as HP computers are primarily tested and validated with the operating system that was originally shipped with the device, typically Windows. Because your Linux Mint Driver Manager indicates that all available drivers are up to date.

At this point, I would recommend either: Contacting the Linux Mint support community or the hardware vendor's Linux support channels for advanced Linux-specific troubleshooting.

Have a good day.
