HP Pavilion 14 inch Laptop PC 14-ec0000 (2Z8E4AV)

Dear community/HP,

My HP laptop with the Realtek audio device, regularly gives the problem 'audio device not found'.

Updating the driver does not work ('already the most recent version'), but either removing the device and adding it ('search hardware for new devices') works for some time: windows finds the device again and sound works.

Until some time later, it again gives the same problem: audio device not found. Visible through a changed audio icon (showing that the device is missing).

The laptop is very recent, so not 100% sure, but it may be that the sound is 'missing'  when the laptop starts up after having been to 'sleep'. Indeed, restarting the laptop seems to always fix the problem.

I have searched for solutions on the web, but found no working solutions. Any ideas what might be the problem?

Is there a bug in the Realtek driver (for which an update is imminent)? Or is it a hardware problem (e.g. the audio chip giving an incorrect response to windows which then shuts down the device)?

Kind regards, Roel (laptop is used by my daughter).

@AnneVDP

Please perform a clean install Audio software/driver, this should help.

   (a) Download the following driver and save on your computer,
                            https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp138501-139000/sp138789.exe       (Windows 11)

                            https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp113001-113500/sp113420.exe       (Windows 10)
   (b) Go to Device Manager, Sound to uninstall sound driver (Realtek) and reboot,
   (c) Right click downloaded file and select Run as administrator,
   (d) Reboot again.

Regards.

Banhien,

Thank you for your response. I have followed the steps you mentioned precisely.

The sound is working now, but I will not yet make this a confirmed fix, as any reboot or 'remove device and scan' always fixes the soundproblem.

If, however, the problem stays away for the next few days/next week, I will consider it solved.

Kind regards,

Roel (for my daughters laptop)

@Banhien,

Unfortunately, the sound problem has returned.

Installing the drivers (as admin) using the ftp link from hp.com did not resolve the issue for long: the same problem came back.

Hence I will not be able to accept your answer as a (final) solution.

I see no other solution then returning the laptop to the shop where I bought it, and perhaps choosing a different kind of laptop.

But thanks for you initial reply, you had me hoping for a view days.

Kind regards,

Roel (for my daughters laptop)
