I had my laptop go through various updates which required a restart. When it booted up again, I noticed hovering over the speaker icon it read "No audio output device is installed". I reinstalled which ever one it needed through HP's website by auto-identifying the model of my laptop. After I installed it, I had to look up the specific folder (SP98419) and clicked on Setup.exe. I went through the installation and it prompted me to restart, which I did. It still says "No audio output device is installed" on the speaker icon. I then went to Device Manager, clicked on View > Show hidden devices, clicked on the arrow for "Sound, video and game controllers" and saw that "Realtek High Definition Audio (SST)", "Intel (R) Display Audio" and some others are there, but grayed out. Is there any way for the audio driver to be properly installed again? This is the extent of my knowledge so far. Any advice helps!

Please do a clean install Audio software/driver, this should help.
(a) Download the following driver and save on your computer,
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp98001-98500/sp98419.exe
(b) Go to Device Manager, Sound to uninstall sound driver (Realtek) and reboot,
(c) Right click downloaded file and select Run as administrator,
(d) Reboot again.
Regards.

Yes, that is the correct laptop.
There were no drivers to uninstall since the computer updates deleted them, apparently.
I have downloaded the driver you mentioned, ran it, rebooted, but nothing came of it. There is still no audio driver installed.
