HP Laptop PC 15s-fq2000 (2D120AV)

The Realtek audio device has vanished from the device manager, no sound, and the "fix" is to install the device. Here's what I've done so far.

SFC and DISM

HP diagnostics

BIOS is up to date

Install legacy hardware which only brings up the blue window.

Tried reinstalling the Realtek audio drivers, they'd unpack, but not install.

Rolled back the latest Win 11 update from MS

Tried System Restore, which wouldn't complete.

In looking for fixes this problem seems to be common, but not a lot of good fixes.

No help, I've seen this driver recommended in a few other places and posts and not one said it worked.  Wouldn't install.

Sadly, that driver didnt work for me either. I am jhaving same issue since last one week, tried in-place WIN 11 upgrade but no luck. 😞

First you should try the drivers from the HP website for this PC series.

Thanks for letting me know the Win restore didn't work, not wanting to waste more time on this.  Last HP I'll buy.

First thing I tried, it wouldn't install, probably because there's no recognized audio device.

I'm very surprised, because not much is recognized, it's just shoveled on. Something must be recognized in the device manager or marked as missing. Is there no sound from headphones, Bluetooth or HDMI?

HP Recommended

bluetooth works, but no drivers install.  And the Realtek device does not show up in sound controllers even when the show hidden devices is checked.

Found the solution yesterday night. It was due to my AVG driver update app which was installing and updating the drivers so please contact your antivirus software provider and see if you can revert or reset the system before the most recent driver update date. They’ll help you. I have now removed the anti virus driver update app. It’s better to reply only on windows updates. Hope this solution helps you.
