Microsoft Windows 11

Model: HP Pavilion Plus Laptop 14-ew1xxx

Motherboard:
HP 8C31

BIOS:
F.13 (02-Jul-2025)

Issue:
No audio output devices detected in Windows.

HP UEFI Audio Diagnostics:
PASS (audio test tones audible)

Windows Device:
INTELAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0245&SUBSYS_10EC0245

HP Audio Driver INF:
Supports INTELAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0245&SUBSYS_103C8C31

Result:
Windows reports Code 28 (CM_PROB_FAILED_INSTALL).

Manual installation of HDXSSTHPNB.inf fails with:
"The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device."

Evidence suggests the Realtek codec is enumerating with SUBSYS_10EC0245 instead of the HP-specific SUBSYS_103C8C31.

Hi  @Inpaudel,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand your concern and I can tell you’ve already done a lot of careful troubleshooting steps . Let’s work together to narrow this down.

Could you kindly confirm:

  • The exact Windows version/build you’re running (e.g., Windows 11 23H2)?
  • Whether you’ve tried reinstalling the Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) driver alongside the Realtek driver?
  • If you’ve recently updated BIOS or chipset drivers before the issue began?

Here are a few steps you can try :

1.Driver Reinstall

In Device Manager, uninstall the audio device (including “Delete the driver software for this device” if available).

Restart the laptop and let Windows attempt to reinstall automatically.

2.HP Support Assistant

Run HP Support Assistant to check for the latest audio and chipset drivers specifically tailored for your Pavilion Plus 14-ew1xxx.

3.BIOS & Chipset Update

Ensure BIOS F.13 is the latest available for your model. If not, update it.

Install the latest Intel chipset drivers from HP’s support page- https://support.hp.com/  for your exact model.

4.Windows Update

Run Windows Update and check under “Optional Updates” for audio drivers.

You’ve already uncovered that the mismatch in subsystem IDs is likely the root cause, so focusing on HP’s official driver package and chipset updates should help align the device correctly.

I hope this helps.
