Microsoft Windows 11

"My HP Pavilion's left internal speaker produces a crackling/distorted sound whenever there is bass or a sudden loud sound. The right speaker works normally. I have already contacted Microsoft Support, and they advised me to contact HP/manufacturer support. I would like help diagnosing whether the left speaker is defective and, if necessary, arranging a repair.

Hi @samir__,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand how frustrating it is when only one internal speaker crackles or distorts, especially when the right speaker sounds normal. Since Microsoft Support has already ruled the issue back to HP, let's focus on checking the built-in audio hardware.

Run the HP Audio Playback Test.

  1. Open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  2. Select Component Tests > Audio > Audio Playback Test.
  3. Select the internal speakers and run the test.
  4. Listen specifically for the crackling or distortion from the left speaker.

HP's Audio Playback Test checks the audio hardware. If it fails, it will provide a 24-digit Failure ID.

Also, please test the same audio through headphones or an external speaker. If those sound normal while the built-in left speaker continues to distort, that helps narrow the issue to the laptop's internal speaker/audio hardware.

If the HP diagnostic test fails, please provide the Failure ID. If it passes but the left speaker still crackles, send me the exact HP Pavilion model/product number, and I'll help you determine the appropriate next HP-supported step.

Best regards,
Kuroi_Kenshi
