Since yesterday, I have no sound. I've updated my laptop and every time I did try to do a sound check or a update the sound driver, I get the blue screen of death. I did check my sound on HP help and they are up to date. But I still have no sound.

When I turn on my Bluetooth headphones, all of a sudden, I have sound. How do I fix this so that I don't get the blue screen of death again? Or how do I fix this so that my headphones are not the main source to get sound?

My main concern is that I do have Adobe Audition, which I already have a set of none-Bluetooth headphones for. I do need it because I have a podcast that I put out every two weeks. That's why I need this no sound issue fixed.

Here's an update on my sound card issue. I did try to use Adobe Audition. I used a console, mic and plugin headphones. I can hear myself and the recording is fine. However, without headphones, I have no audio device found. I think that this problem occurred when I did try to install an audio driver. Do I uninstall it? What will happen if I do uninstall it? How else do I get to listen to my laptop without having a headphone on?

@midnightstarr20, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Let us try the following steps to resolve the issue-

Step 1 Run Audio troubleshooter -

1) In Windows, type "Find and fix audio" into Search, or right-click the speaker icon on the taskbar and select Troubleshoot sound problems.

2) Select Find and fix audio playback problems or Find and fix audio recording problems from the Search results.

Step 2 Re-install the Audio drivers -

1) In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.

2) Double-click Sound, video and game controllers.

3) Right-click on the Audio drivers and click on uninstall.

4) Restart the computer.

If the issue persists, you can try system restore on your computer. I would recommend you to go through a similar post that speaks about the audio issues.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hello,

I did try the Audio Troubleshooter and that didn't work. It thinks that my Bluetooth headphones is the main one. I tried Audio Troubleshooter on HP Support and I get the blue screen of death. I am willing to try out your suggestion anyway.

Will uninstalling the audio driver not have any sound at all after I restart it? I am willing to do it, but I am hesitant. I do need sound for my podcast. I did test out the headphones and playback on Adobe Audition with the headset attached and it worked fine. The problem is that I can't do that when I unplug and turn off both headsets.

midnightstarr20 To answer your question, the windows would automatically reinstall the driver removed as soon as the device is restarted, hence a fresh copy would be available and the same should ideally resolve the issue.

That said, ensure the speakers are selected as default playback devices under sound settings when headphone aren't connected and let me know if that helps.

Hello,

Just before I uninstall the sound driver, here is the playing audio without the Bluetooth. There is no other option. Should I continue to uninstall the drive?

Yes, go ahead with the driver uninstallation.

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello,

I did uninstall my drive and I restarted my computer. That did not work. I still cannot hear anything unless I have either regular or Bluetooth headphones. I tried to click on the speaker icon and the only thing that it detects is the Bluetooth headphones. I cannot go into HP Support Assistant and check the audio issue there. Then I would get the blue screen of death. What else do I do?

Thanks for replying!

Let us try to do a system restore-

1. Save any open files and close all open programs.

2. In Windows, search for restore, and then open Create a restore point from the results list.

3. On the System Protection tab, click System Restore.

4. Click Next.

5. Click the Restore Point that you want to use, then click Next.

6. Click Finish to restore your computer to a previous point.

7. Do not interrupt System Restore when it starts. This can corrupt your hard drive and create more problems.

8. Click Yes in the warning that appears.

9. System Restore returns the computer configuration to a previous point in time and restarts.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
