I’m having some issues with my sound on the laptop. After a few weeks of purchasing my laptop in August of 2018, I started to notice this crackling/static noise in my speakers. As time has gone on, I noticed that my speaker sounds tend to fluctuate from quiet to obnoxiously loud. So I usually would end up putting in headphones so that the static and sound fluctuation wouldn’t happen. Since I’ve gone back to college this year, I’ve had more problems. A lot of times, absolutely no sound comes from my speakers. About 75% of the time, if I restart my laptop, the sound works with the speakers again. However, the speaker sounds still have static and fluctuation in sound. If I don’t restart the computer, I can usually put in my headphones and hear sound despite the speakers not producing sound. However, there have been a couple instances where no sound would go through headphones. I’ve tried troubleshooting the sound and it tells me to turn off sound effects and enhancements but there’s no tab for it. So, when I click "there’s no tab for it," it says it can’t detect any problems. I’ve also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the audio driver, too. And it did not fix the issue.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Does this happen with both the speakers?
Let's try updating the BIOS: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-15m-cn0000-x360-convertible-pc/20270297
If the issue still persists, I recommend you to contact the HP Support Team as this could be a hardware issue.
