HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-eg3000 (78G46AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

When I play sounds from speaker at 100 volume, for some time it plays correctly. But after some time, volume reduce by 40-50 percent.

When I mute the B&O speakers and then unmute them, the sound returns to normal volume for a few seconds and then reduces again.

Everything is updated on the laptop. HP customer care also failed to understand the issue.
I referred this HP Community chat, but this seems to work only for laptops with AMD chipset, mine has Intel.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Audio/My-speakers-have-gone-very-quiet-even-at-full-volume-Th...

So this is not working for me. I had tried Uninstalling and Re-Installing the Sound driver, still the same issue after some time.

To fix your HP laptop's volume dropping automatically, you need to disable the automated audio-leveling features built into the Bang & Olufsen (B&O) control software and Windows.
Here are the step-by-step solutions to resolve this issue.

1. Disable B&O Audio Enhancement
The Bang & Olufsen software has an automatic leveling feature designed to protect speakers or level out commercials, which often malfunctions.
  • Press the Windows Key, type myHP or Bang & Olufsen Audio Control, and open the app.
  • Navigate to the Audio or Output tab.
  • Look for B&O Experience, Audio Enhancement, or Auto Volume Leveling.
  • Toggle the switch to Off.
  • If there is an equalizer profile selected (like Movie or Voice), switch it to Flat or Off.

2. Turn Off Windows Communication Attenuation
Windows automatically lowers your master volume by 50% to 80% if it detects what it thinks is an incoming voice call (like a background Discord, Zoom, or web browser process).
  • Press Windows Key + R, type mmsys.cpl, and press Enter to open Sound settings.
  • Click on the Communications tab at the top.
  • Change the setting from "Reduce the volume..." to Do nothing.
  • Click Apply and then OK.

3. Disable Exclusive Mode Controls
Sometimes third-party apps take exclusive priority over your Realtek hardware, forcing the volume slider down.
  • In that same mmsys.cpl (Sound) window, click the Playback tab.
  • Right-click your default Speakers (Realtek Audio) and select Properties.
  • Go to the Advanced tab.
  • Uncheck "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device".
  • Click Apply and OK.

4. Reinstall the Realtek ALC287 Driver
If the issue persists, the audio endpoint service is crashing and resetting. A clean driver install fixes this.
  • Right-click the Start Menu and choose Device Manager.
  • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
  • Right-click Realtek High Definition Audio and choose Uninstall device.
  • Check the box that says "Attempt to remove the driver for this device" and click Uninstall.
  • Restart your laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall a clean copy of the driver

The original driver can be downloaded here

Thanks for your reply.

1. I went to B&O audio control, but there was no audio enhancement option there, but there was a similar option in Sound Settings, so I switched it off from there. But it directly affected my sound, even the lower sound became more low. But when I toggled it to Audio Enhancement again, sound played at full volume (not lower like the case), but after some time, it got lowered again. Same happens when I mute and unmute sound from the system.

2. I did toggled this setting off as per your reply.

3. Disabled exclusive control and audio played consistently at full volume for some time, but later it lowered again.

4. I tried to do this few days earlier, but it didn't help.

In conclusion, I have done each thing which is mentioned here again, but the volume seems to drop now also.
Please help out...

  • Overheating protection: Playing at 100% volume creates heavy heat in the amplifier and drivers. The speaker drops the volume to cool down its internal parts. Muting gives it a brief break, but it heats up again right after unmuting.
  • Low battery level: Many wireless or portable speakers automatically reduce volume by 40% to 50% when the battery drops below 15% or 20% to save power.
  • Power supply limits: If they are wired/computer speakers, a weak power adapter or worn-out internal capacitors cannot sustain 100% power continuously.

Software and Driver Causes

  • Audio enhancement software: If these B&O speakers are built into a laptop or PC, software like B&O Audio Control, Realtek effects, or Dolby often try to normalize sound or prevent distortion, causing a slow fade.
  • Outdated drivers: Corrupted or generic audio drivers fail to handle peak loads and throttle the output over time.

As I said, all the drivers are updated, so there is no point of outdated drivers here.

For the Overheating thing you mentioned, Laptop is not getting heated at the time when music is getting played. When I restart the laptop, it plays perfectly, but only for few minutes. Also. few months back, speaker was working fine, even when I was using laptop for heavy tasks, means when it was heating up, even then it worked perfectly. So, the issue is new that came with any recent changes inside laptop.

Low Battery level and Power Supply limits points are not relevant in the context.

Please suggest if there is any other solution!

You can try a cloud restore to factory like the day you bought it

If the audio driver works then make a note of the driver's version.

On every subsequent update look and see if Microsoft changed the driver and restore the driver to the original.

Alternately, look and see if there is a restore point that goes back far enough to where the audio works.

Note that the audio chip itself can  heat up quickly and shut itself down and you likely will not notice the problem as the heat is not enough to trigger fans to speed up.

There is bios update, May 2026 as shown here.  if the problem happened after the bios update then that might be the problem.
