HP ENVY - 17m-bw0013dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I brought HP ENVY - 17m-bw0013dx recently and I noticed there is a 2 second delay in sound, while playing via head phones. Can you pease help me fix it or should I return it.
I brought it from best buy, Chicago.

Many thanks in advance,

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand, there is a delay while playing sound via headphones,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

How does the speaker work?

Have you checked with a different pair of headphones?

Does this happen with all the videos and music files or just particular?

Are you playing videos from online?

Is there a lag while playing videos also?

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. In Windows, type find and fix audio into Search, or right-click the speaker icon  in the taskbar and select Troubleshoot sound problems.
  2. Select Find and fix audio playback problems or Find and fix audio recording problems from the Search results.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Select the device you want to troubleshoot and click Next.
  5. Wait while the troubleshooter detects problems and makes changes (or prompts you to make changes).

If the issue persists then I suggest you perform a BIOS update: Click here

If the issue still persists try the steps recommended below.

background intelligent transfer service (BITS) transfers files (downloads or uploads) between a client and server and provides progress information related to the transfers. If the BITS service is turned off, windows update may have problems delivering files to your computer.

Start the BITS service click start, and then click run.

Type services.msc in the open box and then click ok.

Right-click background intelligent transfer service, and then click properties.

On the general tab in the startup type box, click Automatic, and then click apply.

In the service status section of the properties dialog box, verify that the BITS service is started. if it is not started, click start.

Click apply, and then click ok.

Also, uninstall the audio drivers from the device manager and install the latest audio driver from the link

Let me know how this goes,

Cheers!

Hello, thank you so much for your reply.

I have tried everything you have said and even updated the audio driver from your own site.

Even after countless hours of hard work, this audio delay is not resolving.

I went back to Best Buy and replaced my laptop, even the second one having the exact same issue!!!!

Whenever I start a video, there is always a 2 to 5 seconds dealy for the sound to come, irrespective of online Youtube or local movies in hdd. If I pause a video, again there is this same delay! You can see how annoying it is for a $1200 laptop!!

The Best Buy people said, my warrenty will expire in 15 days, afterwords, I'll have to pack and send this laptop to some other state for fixing it. Or, I'll have to take a $200 insurance from  Best Buy!!!

Please help!
Many thanks in advance.

One more thing!

I talked to the HP Customer support for about an hour. They try to fix it via remote assistance. They updated my Bios, audio driver everything they can. Finally they asked me to replace this laptop. I did, but again, even the new one haveing the exact same hardware issue!

Please help!

By any chance are you using Bluetooth headphones? I have this same delay with videos while connected to Bluetooth speakers, and my laptop is almost 3 years old. While this maybe a bit of a nuisance, it's likely a driver issue or an issue with the operating system.

Thank you for your support. But no, it's a cable headset not a bluetooth one. I think that it's a common problem on this serie but HP doesn't call-back and replace our notebooks with new one. I saw lots of people on forums having the same issue.

Hi again,

People are having this issue with Realtek sound drivers and they found a workaround with a registry update.

Please check the topic below and find a proper solution with a driver update!
