Hp Spectre x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey all,

Occasionally when plugging my headphones into my HP Spectre, the sound will be very tinny and have no bass. Usually, the problem rights itself by unplugging the headphones and plugging them back in. This happens surprisingly frequently however.

The second problem is when I unplug the headphones during certain times, such as when watching a video on youtube. When doing this the sound won't start playing out of my speakers until I troubleshoot, and then it will play tinny and distorted. I've had to reinstall the audio driver when this happens and restart.

Does anyone else have this issue or have any advice?

Thank you!

I have a few steps you could perform to resolve the issue:

Hard Reset -

1) Shutdown the computer.

2) Unplug all the Adapter and peripherals connected.

3) Remove the Battery. ( not for Built-in Battery computer )

4) Press and hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds.

5) Plug-in the Adapter and put the Battery back into the computer if it's a (removable battery)

6) Try to turn on the computer and check, If the issue persists continue next step

Set BIOS default and restart:

  1. Restart your notebook.
  2. During startup, press F10 repeatedly until the BIOS menu is displayed.
  3. Once the BIOS menu is displayed, press F9 to restore factory defaults.
  4. Select Yes to confirm.
  5. Press F10 to save changes and exit.
  6. Select Yes to confirm.
  7. The computer restarts using the default settings. Next

Remove the audio drivers & Reinstall the original drivers  Update the Audio drivers from the Official HP website for windows 10

As a workaround, request you open device manager by doing a right-click on the Windows button/menu.

Expand “Sound, Video and Game controllers” or under “other devices” in Device manager.

To find the audio drivers installed on your computer.

Right-click on the audio drivers listed there and uninstall the Intel high definition audio and Realtek audio drivers listed there.

Delete the drivers if prompted during the uninstall process.

Once done, click on View and select Devices by connection on the Device manager.

Expand ACPI x64 based PC.

Expand PCI Express Root complex and right-click on Intel Smart Sound technology Audio controller and uninstall the device.

Make sure to delete the driver if prompted during the uninstall process.

Once done, click on Action and Scan for hardware changes twice in the device manager.

Close device manager.

Open Settings from the Windows menu.

Click on Update and Security and check for updates to get the new audio driver for your computer.

This should resolve the issue.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
