Envy 15 E1P04AV
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have an Envy 15 E1P04AV with Beats Audio. Recently the top speaker stopped working, and now there is only sound coming from the speakers underneath the unit. I suspect this is a hardware malfuction, but I wanted to get others opinions on this before I take it in. Headphones and external speakers work fine, and I've tried messing with driver installations that have not helped. Has anyone else had a similar issue and was it software related? For reference the current driver installed is HdAudio.sys 10.0.15063.0.

Thanks

Hi:

Try reinstalling the audio driver from your notebook's support page.  Then restart the PC.

That would be the only suggestion I can offer.

This package contains the driver that enables the IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.

Thank you! This driver brought back my original audio. I'm guessing what was missing in Device Manager was lost after Windows 10 updated a few weeks back. I did install this in Windows 8 compatability mode as suggested in a Microsoft support thread.

Thanks again.

You're very welcome.

I had to reinstall the audio drivers for all of my HP desktop and one HP notebook PC after the latest W10 Creator's update.

My HP 350 g1 notebook PC also has the IDT audio, and fortunately, reinstalling the W8.1 IDT audio driver from my notebook's support page worked.

One of the HP desktop PC's I have only has W7 audio drivers and fortunately, reinstalling those worked for that PC as well.

I have this same exact issue.

I'm going to try reinstalling the driver and see if that helps.
(I've also upgraded from Win8 to Win10)

Edit: It worked ! Thanks for the help! It's nice when someone else has the same exact issue.

Glad that driver worked for you too.

Reinstalling the driver seems to have worked for me as well. Huzzah! I was so glad when Windows 10 got rid of the awful, awful Beats Audio, but disappointed when the Creators Update routed all the audio through the laptop's bottom speakers.

Thanks.
