My sound worked fine on the laptop until I loaded iTunes and immedietly the speaker showed a red X on it in the system tray. However, when I go through the BIOS I can do a sound test and the speaker works fine.
When I go into device manager the speaker does not even show in the list, It only lists a bluetooth speaker that I've connected to in the past. I know it must have something to do with the drivers, cuz like I said a sound test works in BIOS.
Please help!
Thanks in advance.

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.
I understand that you have an HP Notebook - 15-ay100cy. I read that after installing iTunes there is no sound from the speakers. You have performed a speaker test and it passed. Fabulous analysis. Spectacular diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. You've done a remarkable job performing the steps.
As you rightly pointed out, the evidence points towards an audio driver issue. I suggest you to perform the following steps to fix this issue:
- Power off the laptop.
- Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
- Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
- Power ON the laptop.
Please uninstall the bluetooth speaker from the device manager. Then download and install the audio drivers from this link.
The laptop should be restarted after the audio drivers are successfully installed.
If the issue persists then you may perform the following steps from this HP document:
- Step 2: Use the troubleshooting tool in Windows.
- Step 4: Set the default audio device.
- Step 7: Reset BIOS to defaults.
- Step 9: Update the BIOS from this link. Please ensure that the charger is connected to the laptop during the BIOS update.
I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know how it goes. Good luck! 🙂
