@Vikramme Greetings! I suggest you check the 'Disable front panel jack detection' option:

  1. Double-click on the Realtek HD Audio manager system tray icon
  2. Click on the small folder icon
  3. Check that the 'Disable front panel jack detection' tick box is unticked.
  4. Now insert the jack plug of either a microphone or headphones into the corresponding front panel socket of your computer.
  5. If you now see the message 'Information: A jack has been plugged in', then you do not need to change this setting as your system has an HDA compatible front panel.
  6. If you do not see this message, then click on the small folder icon again and tick the 'Disable front panel jack detection' checkbox.

If any of the above options are unavailable, install the latest drivers for your audio adapter and then try again: Click here for the drivers

@Vikramme Thank you for the screenshots, I suggest you right-click "stereo mix" from the second screenshot you've attached and click - "Disable" then, apply and ok,

Restart the device and the issue should be fixed, let me know if the issue persists.

Keep us posted.

@Vikramme I understand this could be frustrating, however, we can only try steps based on trial and error as the same fix clearly works for one person but not for the other, If you wish to troubleshoot further, you could attempt the below steps, if not, I'll list out the steps to contact HP phone to help you out:

Run the Audio Troubleshooter using the below steps:

  • Press the ‘Windows’ key on the keyboard.

  • Type troubleshooter in the search box and then press enter.

  • Click hardware and sound and click on ‘Playing Audio’.

I would suggest you to boot the computer in Clean Boot and check if that helps:

A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows. To know more, follow the article: Click here for steps.

The same steps can be followed for Windows 10 operating system.

If the issue persists, uninstall and re-install your audio device drivers

a.    Click on Start; in the start search type “devmgmt.msc” without quotes and press Enter.

b.    Expand Sound, Video and Game controllers.

c.    Right click on the audio component and then click uninstall.

Once you’ve uninstalled the driver completely, manually download the BIOS, Chipset and Audio drivers from the HP website and install it: Click here

If nothing works or you aren't comfortable performing this steps, I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options:

follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on "Continue as guest".

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

@Vikramme Try Windows button alone, and then type troubleshooter, you should be able to find it,

(Windows+W only works if you've used the troubleshooter recently - under recently used)

Also, please perform the rest of the steps if the troubleshooter doesn't work or is unavailable and let me know how that pans out.

Good luck
