It has been a while already but I still can't get the microphone to work, it worked from the start, but then at some point stopped working. I have it enabled in privacy settings, removed and reinstalled drivers, in the setting test it works fine, just in none of the apps it works (skype, whatsapp, microsoft teams etc). It's becoming pretty annoying to have to connect a bluetooth headset all the time.

@ArjanN I suggest we run a quick test to identify if this is now an issue with the software/application or the hardware, since the drivers are in place or have been reinstalled:
Use Voice Recorder to find out if the computer can record a signal from the microphone and play it back. Use the following steps to create an audio file:
-
Plug the microphone into the computer.
-
In Windows 10, search for and open Voice Recorder.
The recorder opens.
Figure : Voice Recorder window
-
Click the microphone icon to start the recording. Then, speak into the microphone.
-
When finished recording, click Stop Recording in the center of the blue circle.
Figure : Stop recording
-
Right-click Recording, then select Open file location.
Figure : Open file location
The recording is automatically saved to Sound recordings in your Documents folder.
Figure : Sound recordings folder
-
Double-click the filename of your recording. When the Groove Music app opens, click the Play icon (
) to listen to the recording.
Figure : Groove Music App

@ArjanN There's a slight possibility that the microphone may not work, when the webcam kill switch on the side of the laptop is disabled, I suggest you turn it on and check if that works, if that doesn't help either, try the below steps to get this sorted once and for all:
The Troubleshooting tool automatically finds and fixes many computer issues. Use it to troubleshoot microphone problems.
In Windows, search for and open Control Panel.
Click Troubleshooting.
Under Hardware and Sound, click Troubleshoot audio recording.
NOTE:
Administrator permission is required to run this program. If prompted, type the administrator password or provide confirmation.
The Sound troubleshooter opens. Click Next. The troubleshooter begins checking the audio service status.
Select the device you want to troubleshoot, and then click Next.
Follow the on-screen instructions and make any changes suggested by the troubleshooter. When done, close the troubleshooter.
If the problem persists, continue to the next step.
We may need to reset the privacy settings for the Microphone if the issue occurred after any recent windows updates:
- Open Settings from your start menu.
- Click on Privacy in order to access all your privacy settings.
- Select Microphone from the left pane and then click the Change button.
- Now, turn on the microphone for this device.
- Turn on Allow apps to access your microphone.
- Finally, in the app list, make sure to turn on microphone access for every app you want to give permission to access your microphone.
- Repeat the same exact steps but for your webcam this time.
If the issue persists, uninstall the microphone driver and restart to automatically install a fresh driver for the same after updating the BIOS from the HP website.
- Open device manager, the fastest way is through the search bar:
- Open ‘Audio Inputs and Outputs’
- Left-click on your recording device.
- In the menu that opens up Click ‘Uninstall’.
- delete the driver. click apply/OK and then, restart the pc.

already tried all of that before with no success, microphone worked fine in the testscreen, just not in any app, killswitch of the camera was off (camera working normally), uninstalled and reinstalled drivers already before but nothing worked.
Yesterday I ran driver update again though which I did not for a while and after a firmware update the microphone suddenly worked too. Also the Serial IO driver which I could not install since I bought the laptop even though I tried many times, now also installed without problems. So everything seems to be up-to-date now.
Thanks for your effort of responding though.

It looks like accept as solution is already done by someone else, and even though it is not the solution (since i tried all of that already before my question, and finally it got resolved by a bios update), i still want to thank you for your effort and detailed answers. 😊
