Sometime around when Microsoft pushed a Windows 11 update and/or a BIOS update (F.30) I started to have Hibernation issues and static on my speakers.

The static doesn't start at first, but shows up after a while of playing.  Toggling spatial sound on/off and other options resets the sound for a while but the static returns.

There are ZERO updates on HP Support for Windows 11 drivers - Realtek sound, BIOS, or AMD Radeon Graphics and what is there is old and for Windows 10.  This is really annoying since this laptop was brand new in 2020 and touted as Windows 11 compatible.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Realtek (6.0.9018.1) and Radeon to no avail.  I have side-loaded newer Realtek drivers and it still does the same static.  I disabled everything under the sound section in Device Manager including the AMD audio entries there.

Hi @Doctorlake ,

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

This is actually a very common issue with the HP Envy x360 15-ds0013ca, especially after updating to BIOS F.30 while running Windows 11.

Your conclusion is correct: the F.30 BIOS introduced a bug that affects ACPI power management and causes conflicts with the AMD/Realtek audio drivers. Since HP hasn’t released updated Windows 11 drivers for this model, the problems become even more noticeable.

Below are the fixes and workarounds that users have found most effective for this particular laptop.

1. Fix for Static Audio: Use the Microsoft Generic Driver

The static or crackling noise comes from the Realtek audio driver struggling with the power-state changes caused by the BIOS bug. The simplest and most reliable fix is to switch to Microsoft’s built-in audio driver.

How to switch to the Microsoft High Definition Audio Device driver:

  1. Press Windows + X and open Device Manager

  2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers

  3. Right-click Realtek(R) AudioUpdate driver

  4. Select Browse my computer for drivers

  5. Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers

  6. Choose High Definition Audio Device (Microsoft)

  7. Finish the installation and restart if needed

What to expect:
You’ll lose the Bang & Olufsen audio panel and some enhancements, but the static sound should stop completely. This driver is much more stable on systems affected by the F.30 firmware bug.

2. The Hibernation Problem Caused by BIOS F.30

The F.30 BIOS update also caused hibernation to stop working correctly on this model by breaking certain ACPI functions. This is a firmware issue, not a Windows issue, so there’s no simple software fix.

Current situation:

  • You can’t safely roll back the BIOS

  • HP hasn’t released a newer BIOS version yet that fixes the problem

Until HP provides an update, hibernation simply won’t function properly.

What you can try:

  1. Restore BIOS defaults

    • Restart the laptop and press F10

    • Go to the Exit menu

    • Select Load Setup Defaults or Restore Defaults, then save and exit

  2. Use Sleep or Shutdown instead of Hibernate

    • Sleep usually still works normally

    • Hibernate will remain broken until HP updates the BIOS

Commands like powercfg /hibernate on won’t fix this issue because the problem is in the firmware, not Windows.

3. Update Latest Bios driver on HP Website

Hope this helps resolve your issue.
