For a few months now, after an update my laptop started making a static sound. At first it was just a random thing. so it didn't bother me. however after the last update the static is non stop, during the entire bootup, playing any type of audio, even when the computer is alerting me. I have tried all the troubleshooting that I have seen online, put headphones in, I have even uninstall the driver and it still does it. Does anyone know what how to fix this? Its driving me crazy!
Thanks

@Sammy38, Welcome to HP Support Community!
Did you check with a headphone or an external set of speakers to check if that works?
Did you update to the latest drivers from the HP website?
(Click here to find and install, if you haven't)
If the issue persists, please try the below steps:
- Go to Windows Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers section.
- In the list of audio device drivers, look for Realtek High Definition Audio or Conexant (depending on what driver you have).
- Right-click and select Disable. The downward arrow displays on this driver, indicating it is disabled. (NOTE: At this point, you won’t be able to play any music files.)
- Right-click and select Update Driver Software.
- Select Browse my computer for driver software.
- Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
- You should see a window that says Select the device driver you want to install for this hardware. NOTE: If you see a window that says something like This is the best driver for this device, exit the window and repeat steps 4, 5, and 6.
- In the Model box, highlight High Definition Audio Device (this is the substitute audio device driver) and click Next.
- At the Update Driver Warning window, click Yes. You should see a confirmation window with High Definition Audio Device displayed. Click Close.
- In the list of audio device drivers in the Sound, video and game controllers section, you’ll notice that the High Definition Audio Device now displays instead of Realtek High Definition Audio.
- At the prompt to reboot, click Yes.
- Enjoy your music now with no compression

Thank you for the help unfortunately switching to "High Definition Audio Device" made it worse. The noise was non stop. Headphone and an external set of speakers work however the laptop speakers continues to make the static noise as I play any audio. I uninstalled the driver and it still makes the nose. i don't know what else to do. any other advice?

Perform an extensive hardware test, here is how you do it-
1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second.
When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
3. On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
4. Click Extensive Test.
5. Click Run once, or Loop until error.
While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component are
shown on the screen.
6. If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) so you have it
available when you contact HP Customer Support. The information is also available in
Test Logs on the main menu.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
